Abstract

This research is motivated by the existence of problems faced by students regarding learning motivation in Social Sciences (IPS) subjects at school. This is due to the presentation of learning that is monotonous and the application of rewards that are less varied so that students are less enthusiastic which can result in less interesting lessons. The purpose of this study is, firstly to describe the process of implementing rewards in social studies learning in class IV MI Ar-Riyadl, secondly to describe the learning motivation of students in social studies subjects in class IV MI Ar-Riyadl in the pre-cycle, thirdly to describes how the effect of rewards in increasing student learning motivation in social studies subjects in class IV MI Ar-Riyadl. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive method of classroom action research and the data collection techniques used were questionnaires and observation. The results of the study show that, first, in the pre-cycle, rewards are often applied in the form of words and occasionally give rewards in the form of numbers when using certain methods such as Teams Games Tournament. Both students' learning motivation obtained from the results of the student learning motivation questionnaire in the pre-cycle reached 55.56%. Third, in the first cycle, students' learning motivation has increased, with a percentage of 67.77%. In cycle II it increased again to a percentage of 78.06%.
